It is undeniable that Antipolo City is one of the to-go places for a quick weekend escape. And just in case you are planning to spend your weekend at the place, may I recommend adding Kaulayaw Cafe to your itinerary for a more meaningful visit! Here’s why…

Let’s start this by understanding the meaning of Kaulayaw, it is a Tagalog term, that describes a person as a pleasant and intimate companion, which perfectly describes the cafe’s value. The owner established the company with a fundamental principle of endorsing local farmers and suppliers, supported by their babayin logo symbols, and the tagline- “Ethically Sourced, Locally Grown

Understanding the essence of the brand, Kaulayaw Coffee gives me the impression to extend my support to them in any way that I can. Their beans are locally grown and sourced from various regions in the Philippines, such as Mountain Province, Bukidnon, Davao, Sarangani, Gen San, South Cotabato, and Batangas, Kaulayaw Coffee showcases the diversity and quality of Philippine coffee.

Sourcing beans from different regions allows them to offer a wide range of flavors and characteristics in its coffee products. Each region has its unique climate, soil composition, and growing techniques, contributing to coffee beans’ distinct taste profiles. By showcasing these regional variations, Kaulayaw Coffee not only provides a delightful coffee experience but also promotes the rich coffee heritage of the Philippines.

Moreover, by supporting local farmers, they contribute to the sustainability and growth of the coffee industry in the Philippines. By establishing partnerships with farmers from different regions, they create opportunities for livelihood and help uplift local communities. This support not only benefits the farmers and their families but also helps preserve traditional farming practices and encourages the growth of high-quality coffee production in the country.

Overall the experience provided by Kaulayaw Coffee is a combination of awe-inspiring landscapes and the uplifting support of local farmers. It not only provides a flavorful cup of coffee but also allows coffee lovers to appreciate the cultural and natural richness of the Philippines.

Location

Kaulayaw coffee is located at 23 Sumulong Hwy, Sta. Cruz, Antipolo, with a few minutes, drive from Metro Manila. However, if you were taking a public bus/jeep, the best route I can recommend is from Cubao.

Public Vehicle

From Cubao, look for buses/jeeps bound for Antipolo or Tanay in Rizal. Inform the conductor or driver that you’ll be getting off at the nearest drop-off point to Kaulayaw Coffee/Starbucks the Ridge. Once you arrive, you can use a tricycle or walk to reach Kaulayaw Coffee.

Private Vehicle

If you’re coming from Manila, you can rely on Google Maps or Waze for accurate directions. As you approach the area, keep an eye out for Starbucks The Ridge, which is situated on the same side of the road as Kaulayaw Coffee and serves as a notable landmark.

Additionally, the location is well-known among bikers and riders, further contributing to its popularity.

Kaulayaw Menu

Kaulayaw Coffee or Kaulayaw Cafe offers a wide variety of comfort food that matches the ambiance of the whole place. Their main dish is a fusion of international and local cuisine with clever naming. They have this section called “dayuhan” that offers chicken satay, chicken teriyaki, cordon bleu, barbeque pork belly, slow-cooked baby back ribs, pan-seared salmon, and tuna belly steak. Then the “sariling atin” section offers a selection of popular Filipino food ala kaulayaw, like their Pork Adobo with caramelized apple, tuille, and quail eggs which they called “Yugto”. Followed by other delectable dishes; The “Maharlika” or Chicken Inasal with salted deviled eggs, chicken, rice and served with atchara. The “Ligaya” or the Filipino beef stew in tomato sauce, the “Kahidlaw” or crispy liempo with Filipino sour soup with vegetables also known as sinigang. Lastly, the “Dumangan” or crispy pork knuckles with thick peanut sauce. In addition to the substantial and satisfying dishes, they also provide a variety of options such as pasta, desserts, sandwiches, and more.

And lastly, I must say that I appreciate their inclusion of drip coffee, as it evokes a sense of cultural and traditional roots in their coffee offerings.

This cafe is definitely a must-try!
