Overview
The Pickup Coffee has caught my attention for a while now. Not only does it offer affordable espresso-based coffee, but the takeaway convenience and vintage van-like store also captures my heart which makes me want to buy again and again. However, beyond its appealing aesthetic, does lowering the price justify the flavor of the coffee, or does it fall short?

My Verdict
Before I share my final verdict, let’s first delve into what a cup of Starbucks or any other branded coffee entails. Usually, it includes 1 shot of espresso, milk, a pump of syrup (depending on the flavor), and, of course, some ice if it’s a cold beverage. Regarding the shot of espresso, it’s extracted from finely ground beans using an espresso machine. From this point on, the taste of the coffee may vary depending on factors such as;
- The type of beans that may give a fruity, nutty, or citrus coffee profile.
- The type of roast that can make the coffee taste bitter or mild.
- Proper coffee/grinder machine calibration can lead to good or bad espresso shots.
- The kind/brand of milk used.
- And the kind of syrup, which gives the final touch to your drinks.
Based on what I have seen and observed while buying the drinks from Pickup Coffee, I can say that the extracted espresso is in a “good shot” delivering a rich coffee flavor. To elaborate further, a poorly extracted espresso, known as a “bad shot,” can significantly impact the richness of the coffee and directly affect the overall flavor. This can result from either an uncalibrated machine or not enough coffee grounds, leading to a watery extraction. Unfortunately, in some cafes I’ve visited, this issue has been neglected as long as they serve coffee.

Given that little fact, I can confidently affirm that Pickup Coffee upholds quality espresso-based drinks.
It has become my go-to option for takeaway beverages, as it consistently delivers a well-balanced coffee profile comparable to other expensive coffee brands.
So what’s my final verdict? It’s worth trying and can par with other branded coffee, as long they maintain the quality coffee and invest in barista skill knowledge!
